If you travel often, you are probably all too familiar with the detriments of jet lag, which can sometimes take days to recover from. You may experience fatigue and disorientation, especially when flying across different time zones. Your body’s internal clock is disrupted which in turn also affects your sleep pattern.
You can avoid jet lag on long east-west flights by taking melatonin supplements as such: (
1) take melatonin in increasing doses for 5 days prior to departure while at the same time adjusting your sleep cycle, as follows: 5 days before departure: Go to be ½ hour before your usual time. Take 3 mg of melatonin. 4 days before departure: Go to bed 1 hour before your usual time. Take 6 mg of melatonin. 3 days before departure: Go to bed 1 ½ hours before your usual time. Take 9 mg of melatonin. 2 days before departure: Go to bed 2 hours before your usual time. Take 12 mg of melatonin. 1 day before departure: Go to be 2 ½ hours before your usual time. Take 15 mg of melatonin.Melatonin is a hormone produced by the pineal gland and is important in regulating biorhythms. Supplements may be obtained today from health food stores and most pharmacies. We recommend the
Allergy Research brand. Additionally, when opting for a stimulant to ward off fatigue, we suggest you take one sublingual
Enadalert. All products are available for purchase at our office.
The
Anti-Jet-Lag Diet has helped hundreds of thousands of travelers avoid jet lag over the last 20 years. Developed by biologists at the U.S. Department of Energy's Argonne National Laboratory, it is known as an effective way to reduce the effects the jet lag in long east-west flights. For a small fee, travelers can also use Argonne-developed software to customize the diet tailored to their specific itinerary. Research shows that travelers who use the Anti-Jet-Lag Diet are seven times less likely to experience jet lag when traveling west and 16 times less likely whern traveling east.
