A Letter from Dr. Levin

Dear, Patients, Colleagues and Friends:

It is with mixed emotions that I am announcing my retirement from active practice as of Monday, July 14, 2014. This journey as a healthcare provider has allowed me to meet incredible people, receive support from remarkable, kindred souls, and gain extraordinary friends and expand my world with amazing colleagues.

After practicing for over five decades, I realize how valuable each person has been in my life as a husband, father, friend and physician. From my exceptional wife, Susan, my remarkable children, Beth, Julie, and Erika, to my numerous mentors, patients, friends, and distinguished colleagues, I want each of you to know that you all have made my life a phenomenal journey.

Being a physician is not just about learning anatomy or writing prescriptions. It is a combination of experience and experiences. As I have said for many years, “Experience is what you get when you expect something else”. I have had both in amazing quantities. I have been privileged with so many delightful people in my life and although I will sorely miss seeing patients, it is the perfect time for me to retire.

This truly has been an extraordinary journey because of the patients who have entrusted me with their health and life.

To my colleagues and friends, it has been my deepest pleasure to have been called your colleague and friend.

To each of you that have touched my life, I wish you continued success in all that you aspire to accomplish.

Most Sincerely,

Warren M. Levin, MD

I will keep you both in my prayers. I’m glad you’ll continue to share your and Dr. Levin’s experience and that you can continue his legacy, he is truly one of a kind and I have been blessed to know him and benefit from his wisdom, kindness and unique experience.

Grateful Former Patient

Testimonials: Dr. Levin’s Patients Speak

Recovering from Fibromyalgia

July 23, 2008

Dear Dr. Levin:

The first time we met you Townsend knew that you were going to help him. He called you “The Thinker.” After years of pain and weakness and many, many doctors you were the first to really spend time and review his case. He is better.

Townsend’s endocrinologist looked over your work and called the insurance company for us and they are flying us to Pittsburgh, PA to a Fibromyalgia Clinic.

We always knew you had the knowledge to get him well and you helped us so much. We will never forget you. You have been the catalyst that got Townsend well. It was an honor to know you and work with you.

You are a brilliant physician!

Please tell your staff what a great job they have done. Thank you for all of your help. We always felt we were very taken care of and impressed by your office.

Thank you again,

Dr. Levin,

Thank you so much for your efforts with our son Robbie. After he was first diagnosed as being on the autistic spectrum in October 2006, we started treating him with the gluten free casein free diet. We had remarkable success. We also began removing artificial colors and flavors with the Feingold Diet. We did all we could using natural methods in the DAN Protocol. We needed a chelation test for Mercury, allergy tests, vitamin tests and yeast testing. We had been to other doctors to try to explain that we believed in a natural method to recover from Autism. They did not understand what we wanted and we had to explain it to them. You did the proper testing to find out exactly what individual needs Robbie had and explained in great detail how and why these things needed to be done. We were happy that you tested Robbie with DMSA to rule out the need to use chelation for mercury removal. We are also seeing positive results with vitamin B-12 shots and yeast removal which were two things that Robbie needs to continue to improve.

Robbie hardly ever gets sick anymore since he has taken the vitamins prescribed under your care. You tested Robbie for Allergies for 125 different foods which can cause many autistic symptoms and uncovered some of the common foods we were still feeding him that were causing him problems.

Robbie has since become better able to concentrate in school and interact more normally with other children. In fact, we were quite happy when he was invited to his first “drop-off” birthday party and got along fine with the other kids without us having to attend to help him behave. Robbie is now spending some of his kindergarten day in the mainstreamed classroom which is such a relief to us. When he was first diagnosed, we did not know if that was even going to be possible. Thank you again for all your efforts on Robbie’s behalf. We look forward to continuing the partnership to see how far Robbie can go.

Dear Dr. Levin:

I cannot say Thank You enough for the tremendous difference you have made in my life. In less than three (3) months time you have helped me to be resurrected from the dead!

I will be forever grateful that G_D led me to you because you are truly an angel who cares deeply about his patients and wants to see them well.

You are truly a blessing to all and I am eternally grateful! Thanks for just being you.

The Conditions We Treat are Inter-related

In 1985, Dr. Levin presented scientific research linking chronic systemic yeast with parasites, affecting diseases such as Allergies, Asthma and Chronic Fatigue/ Fibromyalgia. He found that many of these patients have complex problems but can frequently be restored to health when treatment addresses the multiple causes rather than merely giving medication for the symptoms.

Similarily with Asperger’s Syndrome, Autism, Learning Disabilities, and ADD/ADHD– These conditions are often linked to nutritional deficiencies, various toxins and multiple infections and Dr. Levin is notable for treating patients with non-invasive procedures.

Diabetes is another clear example of the genes interacting with the environment, therefore Diabetes can be modified by correcting diet, exercise, toxins, infections and other influencing factors.

Asthma is marked by the constriction of the airways that become inflamed and are lined with mucus. Allergies, stress, frigid air, common colds, and exertion can trigger asthma.

Typical signs of asthma are: wheezing, coughing, tightness in the chest area, and shortness of breath.

If you or a loved one has a symptom(s) of asthma, you will need to be seen by a medical doctor to identify irritants that may be causing the asthma attacks and present an individualized treatment plan.

Dr. Levin has successfully treated asthmatic patients and welcomes you to schedule an appointment.

Candida is as real and as overlooked, as under treated and as misunderstood, and maligned as Lyme disease. We were taught in medical school that systemic Candida was a fatal complication of immune sup-pression, as with cancer, chemo-therapy, and eventually AIDS. Today Candida is so common-place that a serious error of logic has occurred-“If everybody has it, then it must be normal!” Yet, it is only one of a multitude of unhealthy contaminants of the intestinal tract that contributes to chronic illness.

“Dr. Levin’s treatment of my allergies and chronic yeast infection has been the only treatment which has worked.” – D DeJ JJ

“I was bounced around from specialist to specialist… Thanks to your patience, listening and vast experience and knowledge in so many areas of the medical field, it was determined exactly what was causing my medical issues. I was dying prematurely from the Lyme and Candida and heavy metals exposure. I am grateful for the diagnosis that you made and your treatment is enabling me to start the recovery process and improve the quality of my life for my remaining years. Thanks for going the extra mile to figure out my medical issues and correct them.” Barry C., Research Technician

Lyme Disease

Dr. Levin has been treating Lyme disease since the mid-1990s. Dr. Levin himself has had Lyme disease twice but successfully treated it early on both occasions. This makes three important points:

  • Early treatment is short and effective.
  • Unlike most other infections, long-term immunity is not guaranteed after recovery or immunization. It is impossible (outside of a very few research facilities) to differentiate a new infection from a recurrence of an old one that has not been treated long enough.
  • Knowing when to stop is often more difficult than making the diagnosis. Late diagnosis and short treatment is the formula for disastrous results.

“Dr. Levin through time, patience , various testing, and tons of blood work, vitamins, some minerals, and medications has healed me both physically and mentally. He has corrected the deficiencies and balanced my system. I can honestly state that Dr. Warren Levin is the very best of the best. He truly cares about his patients and he goes the “whole nine yards” for them. Thank you Dr. Levin for giving me back my life.” – SSL

“My name is K. Jacobs. Over the last six years I have suffered from Lyme disease which has caused me memory loss, super-ventricular tachycardia, joint pain, swollen glands, and has weakened me. I have not been able to return to work. In short, Lyme Disease has simply robbed me of my life. In my ongoing struggle with this disease is where I found comfort and hope, when I met Dr. Warren Levin.”

“Dr. Levin is known as one of the foremost experts in the treatment of Lyme Disease as well as a pioneer in the field of integrative and alternative Medicine. He is thorough and detail oriented and does not leave a stone unturned in his search for answers for his patients. However, to me he is so much more than that – he is a compassionate man who treats his patients as human beings rather than just medical cases. I have spent many hours having treatment in his office, in New York watching him dance around, sitting next to his patients and bringing them hope like a medical life jacket. He brings each person safely home with kind words and lots of love. How often do you find such a doctor?” – K J, NYC, NY

Treatment Specialization

We Treat the Whole Patient

Our services and treatments are a blending of conventional and alternative philosophies for health. Dr. Levin incorporates a vast array of scientific knowledge gathered from over 50 years of practice and from innumerable resources. The office uses the most reliable laboratories and the highest grade therapies in order to provide the most effective treatments available. This practice is focused on patients with chronic illnesses – “The Stepchild of American Medicine.”

Dr. Levin is committed to providing his patients innovative medical services and therapies that may not be readily available elsewhere and to providing each patient with information about his/her health and available treatments in order for each patient to make an informed choice.

Alternative medicine has been around for centuries and recognizes that the patient presents at the physician’s office as the sum total of all the patient has ever been, thought experienced, desired, consumed, or any activity she/he has ever engaged in. Dr. Levin realizes this, as well, so, instead of a “pill for your ill” (or symptom), Dr. Levin strives to bring your whole being into focus. The only way to accomplish this is for a doctor to spend more time with each new patient than insurance companies are willing to pay for. This accounts for the lengthy initial office visits, to allow a thorough review of previous records and an in depth current history with review of questionnaires; a long second consultation to review new laboratory tests and make a working diagnosis, followed by a discussion of the various options for treatment.

The natural approach to healing has a long history. Before there were pills, there were herbs. Dr. Levin recognizes the incredible advances in medical science, but insists on non-evasive and more body-friendly approaches whenever possible.

We had been to other doctors to try to explain that we believed in a natural method to recover from Autism. They did not understand what we wanted and we had to explain it to them. You did the proper testing to find out exactly what individual needs Robbie had and explained in great detail how and why these things needed to be done.

Healing is not just the alleviation of symptoms, but getting at the underlying causes for the symptoms. You may share symptoms with another person, but this does not mean you have the same underlying conditions causing the same symptoms. And since you are an individual, your therapy must be carefully planned to meet your underlying conditions and symptoms.

Advanced Longevity Therapy

Dr. Levin emphasizes the quality of life in the elderly. This therapy takes into account your entire health picture–genetic, infection, chemical, physical, nutritional, and behavioral factors. This means Dr. Levin emphasizes prevention of disease, detoxification, and lifestyle changes to optimize and extend quality years of life. This may include hormone replacement, supplement therapy, among other choices.

Chelation (key-la-shun)

Chelation therapy utilizes several different substances to help the body eliminate unwanted (usually toxic) minerals, including Lead, Mercury, Cadmium, Arsenic, and Aluminum. Note, in some cases, useful minerals are lost too, so careful pre-testing and post treatment follow up is required.

One of the first substances used was the administration of a man-made amino acid called EDTA into the veins — EDTA is an abbreviation for ethylenediamine tetraacetic acid. Properly used, EDTA is the BEST form of Preventative Medicine for degenerative cardiovascular diseases, because it also removes Calcium, and essential mineral that tends to accumulate with age and contributes then to arteriosclerotic changes in the heart, brain, and peripheral circulation.

Dr. Levin gave his first Chelation treatment in 1968 to a woman who was dying from congestive heart failure (from rheumatic heart disease and hypertension), with insulin dependent diabetes, gout and kidney failure. She “came back” and lived at a whole new level of energy for over 15 months. That began his career as one of the leaders of this “controversial” therapy that has helped thousands of patients to “Bypass the Bypass Surgery.”

Neurotransmitter Precursors for Migraines, Depression, Weight Loss

Using neurotransmitter precursors for depression, migraines and obesity

Why do most drugs for depression work well at first and then fail? The answer is in the name of these drugs. Serotonin “uptake inhibitors” inhibit your body from re-absorbing important neurotransmitters each time your nerves use them to send messages. So your reservoir of these neurotransmitters gets depleted.

You can’t take neurotransmitters orally or by injection, because they don’t cross the blood brain barrier. An alternative therapy prescribes the building blocks or “precursor” molecules, so that the body will manufacture neurotransmitters naturally and refill the reservoirs.
